Green Dragon Breaks a Leg

Heaven-plate Wu over earth-plate Xin — Xin metal wounds the Azure Dragon from below, a dragon with a broken foot, its movement checked. With an auspicious door, plans may still be managed with effort; with an inauspicious one, expect mishap and lost money.

Heaven plate Wu + Earth plate Xin

In Depth

Azure Dragon Breaks a Foot refers to heaven-plate Wu descending upon earth-plate Xin. Wu conceals Jia-Zi, and Jia wood is the Azure Dragon; Xin, yin metal, sits on the earth plate and hacks at Jia wood from below. The earth plate lies beneath and takes the image of the feet — the dragon's foot cut by the metal blade, hence the broken foot. The pattern's logic is earth-plate yin metal covertly controlling the heaven-plate wood: the wound rises from below and from the dark, so this pattern's misfortunes land on foundations, subordinates, the legs and feet, and the power to move — unable to walk, unable to stand firm, the base eaten away. In grade it is inauspicious, yet with room left: under the Open, Rest, or Life doors the dragon, though lamed, can still wheel about, and small matters may be managed with effort; under inauspicious doors, injury piles on injury — mishap, lost money, ailments of the legs and feet, and subordinates turning coat may all come true. Cautions: read the door's quality first, then set advance or retreat; anything dynamic — travel, relocation, breaking ground — demands special care, while static affairs feel less of it; add strike-punishment or emptiness and mobility is gone entirely — shift wholly to the defensive. In health questions the sign of leg and foot injury is unusually direct: keep off heights and dangerous ground, and move again once the pattern has cleared.

Readings by Topic

Career

Progress limps along: execution springs leaks at every step, and a capable subordinate quitting or dropping the ball is a classic sign. With an auspicious door, advance slowly and test in small steps; with an inauspicious one, halt the expansion and shore up the delivery layer first.

Wealth

Losses start at the base: storefronts, equipment, and supply chains leak money when the foundations falter, and accounts handled by subordinates deserve an audit. With an auspicious door the damage stays contained; with an inauspicious one, guard against cascading losses — right now, plugging leaks matters more than opening new revenue.

Relationships

The relationship's footing erodes: long-distance couples and those rarely together feel the strain most, and whispers worked from the shadows deserve vigilance. Presence beats promises now; under an inauspicious door, a relationship held together by effort may snap over a single trip or move.

Health

The signs point squarely at the legs and feet: falls, sprains, fractures, and strained joints and tendons are all in scope, and the liver and gallbladder deserve attention too. Protect the lower limbs in sport and travel, and take particular care climbing or cycling; old injuries recur easily now, so do not test them under load.

Travel

An unfavorable pattern for travel: falls and twisted ankles, vehicle trouble, and journeys cut short are all elevated risks. With an auspicious door, short trips are workable — insure them fully; with an inauspicious one, cancel the long haul, and above all avoid mountain treks, risky terrain, and long self-drive routes.

Disputes & Lawsuits

The case's legs are hobbled: key witnesses go quiet, enforcement stalls, and even a winning judgment is hard to collect on. With an auspicious door, grind forward methodically; with an inauspicious one, expect the other side to cut the ground from under you — secure preservation orders first, then talk strategy.
