Trapped Dragon Wounded

Heaven-plate Xin over earth-plate Wu: the metal of punishment presses down on the Azure Dragon's noble qi — a dragon stranded in the shallows. It signals suppression and thwarted ambition; staying quietly within one's station preserves safety, while rash moves bring lawsuits and ruin in their wake.

Formation

Heaven plate Xin + Earth plate Wu

In Depth

Wu is the Azure Dragon, governing wealth and eminence; Xin is the deity of the Heavenly Prison and wrongful punishment, governing fault and injury. With heaven-plate Xin over earth-plate Wu, the metal of Xin caps the dragon's head while draining the earth's qi — a dragon stranded in the shallows and wounded there, a pattern called the Trapped Dragon Wounded. It forms on two counts: first, Xin metal riding atop Wu earth means noble qi pinned beneath the deity of punishment, hence ambition with no way to unfold; second, earth generating metal is drainage, wealth qi quietly bleeding away, hence damaged foundations. This is misfortune of the suppressive kind: no sudden calamity necessarily strikes, yet constraint waits at every turn and any move invites blame. The old texts judge that keeping to one's station in patient restraint is acceptable, while rash action brings lawsuits and ruin — the whole balance of fortune rides on the choice between stillness and motion: hold still and it is merely stifling; move rashly and legal trouble and financial loss follow one on another. Read the host palace: in Gen or Kun, where earth flourishes, the drainage worsens and the confinement deepens; in the Li Palace Xin metal is subdued, and the dragon has a chance to lift its head. With the three auspicious doors, modest gains are possible within a holding posture; pressed by inauspicious doors, even holding still demands doubled care. In emptiness, the suppressing force loses purchase and prospects of escape appear. For questions of ambition, investment, or promotion under this pattern, the first verdict is always that the time has not come: counsel defense, not attack. Use the dormant season to build inner strength — when Xin metal loses its force, the dragon rises again of itself.

Readings by Topic

Career

Talent goes unrecognized: ability is held down, promotion lists pass you by, and pushing hard only stirs trouble. Resignation letters and demands for transfer both count as rash moves now. Keep to your post, stay low, accumulate steadily, leave your results on the record, and wait for the moment.

Wealth

Wealth qi sits confined: the main business earns modestly, and expansion, leverage, or a change of lane all invite loss — movement costs money. There is an image of old money stuck underwater, and scrambling to win it back only sinks you deeper. Guard the cash flow, cut expenses, and let stability be the victory.

Relationships

The relationship feels suppressed and airless — one side endlessly accommodating, grievances hard to voice. Forcing a showdown or demanding declarations now can crack the bond outright. Say what needs saying without burning what needs keeping; improve daily terms in small steps, and make no major decisions at an emotional peak.

Health

Illness born of pent-up strain: lung qi failing to disperse, weakened spleen and stomach, worn sinews and bones — mostly the sediment of long pressure. Treatment should pair release with nourishment; do not tough it out unexamined. This is no season for chronic patients to switch therapies aggressively — steady conditioning wins.

Travel

Movement is hemmed in on all sides: itineraries pinned down by sudden restrictions, permits withheld, and a forced departure means friction the whole way. Skip nonessential long trips; when travel is necessary, go light, lower the trip's ambitions, finish the essential business and return — no detours.

Disputes & Lawsuits

The suit finds you wronged yet unable to argue it: initiating litigation invites ruin, exactly the classical warning against rash action. Defend rather than attack — hold the evidence, answer through proper procedure, file no casual countersuits, open no new fronts, work toward mediation, and lock the losses at their minimum.
