What is BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny)?

BaZi, also called the Four Pillars or Zi Ping astrology, describes a natal chart with four stem-and-branch pairs — eight characters in all — derived from the year, month, day and hour of birth. What is the difference between BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu?

Both start from the moment of birth, but the methods differ. BaZi converts time itself into stems and branches and reads Five-Element dynamics and Ten-God patterns — strongest on character and the rhythm of luck cycles. Zi Wei Dou Shu places over a hundred stars into twelve palaces and excels at examining specific life domains — career, marriage, wealth — palace by palace. Does the same birth data always produce the same chart?

Yes. Charts are cast by a deterministic rule engine — solar terms, sexagenary reckoning and star placement all follow fixed rules, so the same input yields the same chart on the hundredth run as on the first.
