Zuo You Tong Gong (Twin Assistants)
Zuo Fu and You Bi together at the Life Palace, or flanking and saluting it — double support arriving at once. A lifetime of patronage and a natural place at the center: the strongest of the supportive patterns.
🔑 How It Forms
Zuo Fu and You Bi sit in the same palace (in the same palace = both stars falling inside one and the same palace) in the Life Palace itself — that is the standard route. Or the two stars occupy the palaces immediately before and after the Life Palace, one on each side with the Life Palace in between (this is called flanking, and it does not matter which star comes first). Or both stars fall inside the Life Palace's trinity (the palace itself + the opposite palace + the two trine palaces, four in all) and are met across it. Satisfying any one of the three routes forms the pattern. No brightness threshold applies, and malefics are not checked.

🔬 A Worked Example, Step by Step
The chart below is cast by our own engine, and the steps come from the pattern detector in that same pass — the explanation is the judgement, not a separate write-up.
- 1
Locate the Life Palace (branch Wei) as the basis for judgement.
- 2
Looking for Zuo Fu and You Bi in the Life Palace: Zuo Fu and You Bi is absent.
- 3
Checking the two palaces flanking the Life Palace (Parents Palace and Siblings Palace): the required flanking does not form.
- 4
Looking for Zuo Fu and You Bi across the trinity of the Life Palace: all required stars are present.
- 5
This pattern can form along 3 different routes; this chart satisfies 1 of them, so it forms — the unmet route above is simply the other path, not a failure.
- 6
Finally the tier: no malefics or Hua Ji disturb the trinity of the Life Palace, so the pattern stands at full strength.
◇ Result: the pattern forms with no malefic or Hua Ji to discount it; here it comes together by trine, which carries less force than the two stars sharing one palace
Zuo Fu and You Bi are the system's two great stars of support — Zuo Fu governing open sponsorship and resources, You Bi covering for you quietly and bringing goodwill — and they have to arrive as a pair for support to count as doubled, which is why all three routes without exception require both stars, with no option for one being enough. The three routes correspond to three ways of being helped: the same palace puts the support right beside you, flanking sets one star in each adjacent palace so the Life Palace is guarded on both sides, and being met across the trinity throws the force in from a distance. Nearness gives more force than distance, but all three are structurally sound and the detector accepts them alike. The flanking step is the one most often misread — it examines the two palaces immediately adjacent to the Life Palace, not the trine palaces, and it does not care which star comes first. The routes overlap: when Zuo Fu and You Bi share the Life Palace the third route is satisfied automatically, and since the detector asks for any one of the three, nothing is counted twice.
🎯 Readings by Topic
Team-based work and the second-in-command track: coordination, orchestration, running alliances. Going solo wastes a chart full of allies.
Money from cooperation beats money made alone, and partnerships usually out-earn solo efforts. Judging people correctly is this pattern's moat.
Matches are often made through introductions, and the steadiest marriages are the ones where the two act as each other's right and left hands. Watch that too much outside help does not stir jealousy at home.
⚠️ When It Breaks
A single Assistant alone gives half the force. Tangled with malefics, support becomes entanglement and the person helping you may also be holding you back. A flanking arrangement built around Hua Ji is read as adverse: help with damage inside it.
