Zi Wei at the Life Palace with Zuo Fu and You Bi in the two adjacent palaces — two ministers guarding the sovereign. An exceptionally solid base with someone always underneath: the stable branch of the emperor patterns.
🔑 How It Forms
Zi Wei sits in the Life Palace itself; at the same time Zuo Fu and You Bi occupy the palaces immediately before and after the Life Palace, one on each side, with the Life Palace in between (this is called flanking, and it does not matter which star comes first). Both conditions met together form the pattern. Only the two immediately adjacent palaces count — Zuo Fu and You Bi shining in across the trinity does not satisfy this route.

Zi Wei may gain Zuo Fu and You Bi in two entirely different ways: met across the trinity they are like capable ministers at court, contributing from a distance; flanking, they are the personal guard standing at the emperor's ribs. This pattern takes the latter, which is why the detector runs a check specifically on the palaces before and after rather than on the trinity — it looks at the position one palace forward and one palace back from the Life Palace, and needs Zuo Fu on one side and You Bi on the other, in either order. Why does the emperor star value this structure in particular? Flanking is a form of encircling support: someone catches a bad decision, someone steadies a shaky position, and the floor of the pattern is lifted a long way. Its virtue is steadiness rather than spectacular rises. The test does not ask what else sits in the adjacent palaces, so if a malefic shares one of them the pattern still forms — a bodyguard with thorns belongs to the questions of what breaks the pattern and what to watch for.
