Three Nobles & Six Yi

Yi Noble

One of the Three Wonders, called the Day Wonder. The stem Yi is yin Wood, imaged as flowers, grasses, and vines. It governs quiet help from benefactors, medicine, marriage, and the way of gentleness; in a flourishing palace with an auspicious door, every undertaking is open.

In Depth

Yi is the first of the Three Wonders of Qimen, called the Day Wonder. The stem Yi is yin Wood, imaged as flowers, grasses, and vines — soft yet tenacious. Its imagery covers physicians and medicine, the wife, women, scholars, and peaceful means: whatever is achieved by softness overcoming hardness, by the indirect route, answers to Yi. On the plate, when the palace holding Yi also receives an auspicious door, Wonder and Door meet — and every undertaking is open. Yi flourishes in spring and is supported in winter; in autumn, when Metal reigns, it is restrained. Landing in the third palace, Zhen, it is enthroned, drawing the fullest strength of its home; landing in the Kun palace it enters its tomb at Wei, its radiance veiled and its power much reduced. Yi over the various earth-plate stems forms further patterns: over Bing, Wonder and Instrument in smooth accord; over Ji with the Open Door, Earth Concealment (Di Dun); over Xin, the Azure Dragon Flees — fortunes far apart, so read the pattern first and the strength after. Matters suited to Yi should be soft and quiet: seeking physicians and medicine, harmonizing a marriage, mediating and maneuvering, courting a female benefactor — here its help shows most plainly. Points to note: Yi with Void means the benefactor's help comes to nothing and promises go unhonored; pressed by an inauspicious door, the soft approach gets turned against you. Yi is also the wind: in weather readings it answers with wind, and in human affairs it marks a gentle temperament prone to indecision — for matters demanding a swift, clean cut, borrow strength elsewhere.

Readings by Topic

Career

Yi governs quiet help from benefactors. In job-seeking and courting the influential, take the gentle route: an introduction through a woman or a roundabout recommendation succeeds more easily. In a flourishing palace with an auspicious door, clerical, medical, and design posts run especially smooth. Overcome, the benefactor is willing but powerless — don't press for a quick answer.

Wealth

Yi's wealth is taken gently. It favors medicine, horticulture, education and culture, and the beauty trades — a long steady stream beats a big gamble. Sharing a palace with the Life Door, money comes with a female benefactor's help. With Void, promised shares and rebates tend to evaporate — count nothing until it lands in the account.

Relationships

In marriage readings Yi usually stands for the woman. In a flourishing palace with an auspicious door, she is well placed and the relationship runs warm — advance the marriage with soft words. Yi over Xin forms the Azure Dragon Flees: guard against the relationship slipping away. In a standoff, the side that bends first comes out ahead.

Health

Yi governs medicine. In illness readings it augurs meeting a good physician and the right remedy; chronic conditions especially suit warm, nourishing care. As Wood it corresponds to the liver and gallbladder and the nerves; overcome by Metal, guard against liver stagnation, insomnia, and stiff neck and shoulders. Prefer mild medication, and seek further medical advice before anything drastic.

Travel

Yi is the wind — soft and fond of motion. Setting out with Yi at an auspicious door, the journey is smooth and warm-hearted helpers appear along the way. It suits short outings to the countryside, visits to friends, and trips to see a doctor. Overcome or in Void, expect weather-driven postponements — keep an alternative route ready.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Yi governs mildness and accord. In litigation it counsels mediation over a fight to the finish: a go-between of real standing beats a courtroom confrontation. With an auspicious door, the other side can be softened. With Yi in its tomb palace, the road of persuasion is closed — turn to preparing evidence and follow procedure.
