Canopy Rebellion

Heaven-plate Gui over earth-plate Bing: yin water bears down on the fire of the Moon Beauty — the low defies the high and the light is veiled. Unfavorable for noble and humble alike; only those at the very top can turn it to advantage.

Classical Verse

In Depth

Canopy Defying the Master is the inauspicious formation produced when heaven-plate Gui sits over earth-plate Bing. Bing is the Moon Beauty (Bing Qi), blazing fire whose light stands for teachers, elders, and sovereigns; Gui is water at its most yin, the Canopy pressing down from above. When Gui water descends upon Bing fire, yin subdues yang and the low assails the high: the light is veiled, like a disciple defying the master — hence the name. The formation portends discord between above and below, the order of rank thrown into disarray: noble and humble alike find it unfavorable, plans meet suppression from superiors and proposals stall; only those at the summit of power can wield yin to govern yang and turn the moment to their use — thus the ancient verse says only the highest find fortune in it. The formation rests on the clash of water and fire: when Gui meets Bing, restraint becomes open battle, brightness is smothered, order inverts — matters involving superiors and subordinates, masters and disciples, regulators and regulated are the most prone to upheaval. In severity this is an inauspicious formation: with door and star both inauspicious, the conflict breaks into the open, quarrels and litigation erupting together; auspicious doors can only soften it, never mend the underlying defiance. Points to note: under this formation, do not lecture superiors or act over their heads, and above all avoid head-on collision with those in power; water and fire at war signal sudden turns — stay alert for abrupt incidents; with the Fright Door or Scenery Door, disputes of words and documents burn hotter. It mirrors the formation of heaven-plate Bing over earth-plate Gui — in both, giving way is the wisest course.

Career

An image of clashing with superiors and mentors: proposals suppressed, credit overshadowed, and rank-and-file suggestions mostly rebuffed; those already in high positions can instead use the moment to assert authority. Work by the book and through channels — never report over heads or contradict the powerful in public.

Wealth

With water and fire at war, finances swing sharply — investments open high and slide, with last-minute reversals. Avoid adding positions in fire-natured sectors like energy and electronics; cash is king, watching beats acting, and settlements with upstream suppliers deserve especially close attention.

Relationships

Two temperaments collide — one cold, one hot — with frequent quarrels and clear signs of elder disapproval. Confessions and proposals made now tend to meet cold water; better for each side to step back and let things cool, returning to the question of the relationship once the clash of water and fire subsides.

Health

Ailments tend toward the cardiovascular system, the eyes, and blood pressure, with cold and heat contending and symptoms relapsing. Never stop or switch medication on your own or chase folk remedies; see a doctor promptly to bring the numbers under control, keep emotions level, and guard against sudden attacks — especially at night.

Travel

Journeys meet sudden upsets: guard against scalds and water hazards alike, and expect delays and rebookings of flights and trains. Postpone important trips if possible; if you must go, keep the itinerary simple, carry few valuables, and steer clear of thunderstorm peaks.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Contending with superiors, one's own school, or regulators is most unfavorable — odds low, costs high. Put away the combative posture and go through proper channels of appeal and hearing; when the other side holds high office, never clash head-on — forbearance now is what averts disaster.
