Zi Fu Tong Gong (Emperor & Treasury)
Zi Wei and Tian Fu, two great stars, share a single palace at the Life Palace — emperor and treasury side by side, presence and resources in the same hand. One of the celebrated grand patterns of Zi Wei Dou Shu.
🔑 How It Forms
Zi Wei and Tian Fu sit in the same palace (in the same palace = both stars fall inside one and the same palace) and that palace is the Life Palace, which must lie in the Yin or the Shen branch. The test looks at the Life Palace and nothing else: if both Zi Wei and Tian Fu are there and the branch is Yin or Shen, the pattern is formed. No brightness threshold applies, and what the trinity brings in is not asked about.

🔬 A Worked Example, Step by Step
The chart below is cast by our own engine, and the steps come from the pattern detector in that same pass — the explanation is the judgement, not a separate write-up.
- 1
Locate the Life Palace (branch Yin) as the basis for judgement.
- 2
This pattern requires the palace to sit at Yin and Shen; the Life Palace is at Yin — condition met.
- 3
Looking for Zi Wei and Tian Fu in the Life Palace: all required stars are present.
- 4
Finally the tier: no malefics or Hua Ji disturb the trinity of the Life Palace, so the pattern stands at full strength.
✓ Result: the pattern forms at full strength
Zi Wei is the emperor star, governing standing and command; Tian Fu is the treasury star, governing resources and consolidation. The two heaviest stars in the system rarely land in one palace, so what this pattern tests is whether both hands of cards are held at the Life Palace at once. Besides checking for the two stars, the detector also insists the Life Palace be at Yin or Shen, because Zi Wei and Tian Fu keep a fixed relative position across the twelve palaces and those are the only two branches where they overlap — pinning the branch is both a second safeguard and a convenient way to rule out the false positive of two stars that occupy separate palaces and merely share a trinity. 'In the same palace' in the steps means strictly inside one palace: adjacent does not count, and neither does being met across the trinity.
🎯 Readings by Topic
Large platforms and large institutions suit it, entering through the management track or the resource track. The presiding air is innate — the more complicated the operation, the more obvious the value.
The financial base is thick. This is a talent for accumulation rather than risk: steady allocation beats speculation every time. With Lu Cun or Hua Lu in the mix the treasury fills, and assets compound noticeably from middle age on.
High standards in a partner — conditions matter, and so does dignity. The partner must be able to admire that bearing and live with a strong will; a match of equals is the one that holds.
⚠️ When It Breaks
Without Lu meeting it the storehouse stands empty — more grandeur than substance. Add Di Kong and Di Jie and the treasury is robbed: guard against ambition outrunning ability. With the Void stars in the same palace, or malefics piled on, the pattern no longer counts as complete.
