🔑 How It Forms
Within the Life Palace's trinity (the palace itself + the opposite palace + the two trine palaces, four in all) there must be Tian Ma, the star of motion; the same range must also show Lu — either the physical star Lu Cun, or any star carrying the birth-year Hua Lu (Hua Lu = the mark of income that the heavenly stem of the birth year stamps onto a star), one of the two being enough. Both conditions form the pattern. The test does not require Lu and Tian Ma to occupy the same palace, and does not check whether Tian Ma has fallen into the void.

Lu is the provisions and Tian Ma is the capacity to move, so what this pattern tests is whether the provisions have been loaded onto the horse — whether wealth starts being generated by the person's movement rather than sitting still. The test runs in two steps: first confirm Tian Ma has entered the trinity, then confirm Lu has arrived. The Lu step offers two routes and either will do — one is a physical star whose position the birth-year stem fixes for life, the other a mark that stem stamps onto a major star and which travels with it; different in kind, both count as seeing Lu. Note that the test does not require them to share a palace: the old books hold that Lu and horse in the same district is truest, and a conjunction does deliver the most force, but as long as Lu and Tian Ma both enter those four palaces the detector rules the pattern formed, and the detector does not grade the conjunction: the tier shown on the page tracks only malefics and Hua Ji, so whether Lu and Tian Ma share a palace is for you to note when reading the chart. That a Tian Ma fallen into the void means travel without reward is likewise not checked, and is left to the questions of what breaks the pattern and what to watch for.
