Kong Jie Jia Ming (Voids Flank the Life)
The Life Palace flanked by Di Kong and Di Jie — much effort and little return, money in and money out. Build a life on craft and on ideas.
🔑 How It Forms
Of the two palaces immediately before and after the Life Palace, one holds Di Kong and the other Di Jie (in either order), the two void stars flanking the Life Palace between them. That forms the pattern. The test examines only those two neighboring palaces and requires nothing about which stars are or are not in the Life Palace.

🔬 A Worked Example, Step by Step
The chart below is cast by our own engine, and the steps come from the pattern detector in that same pass — the explanation is the judgement, not a separate write-up.
- 1
Locate the Life Palace (branch Si) as the basis for judgement.
- 2
Checking the two palaces flanking the Life Palace (Parents Palace and Siblings Palace): the flanking condition holds.
- 3
Finally the tier: Wen Chang, Lu Cun, Tian Tong Hua Lu, Wen Qu, Tian Yue and Tian Kui appears across the trinity of the Life Palace, tempering the pattern — the structure holds but its edge is blunted; see "When It Breaks" below.
◐ Result: the pattern forms, but benefics temper it
Wen Chang, Lu Cun, Tian Tong Hua Lu, Wen Qu, Tian Yue and Tian Kui
Di Kong and Di Jie are the system's dedicated pair for coming to nothing and draining away: Kong leans toward ideas losing contact with reality, Jie toward things already in hand slipping out of it, and with one on either side of the Life Palace the picture is a life with two holes cut in it. The detector does not look at what sits in the Life Palace, nor at whether a Lu star has arrived to rescue it — whether the situation can be relieved is a question of remedy and does not change whether the pattern forms — so this step simply looks for one star in each neighboring palace. Flanking must involve the immediately adjacent palaces, with anything further out not counting, as in every flanking pattern. Di Kong and Di Jie injure the ability to hold onto money while feeding the ability to create: a sensitivity to intangible things and a refusal to run in grooves. Turned toward craft and ideas, that is a better outlet than a lifetime of guarding against it.
🎯 Readings by Topic
Trades that make something out of nothing: creative work, research and development, metaphysics, art, technical research. Pure trading and capital-pool businesses are the wrong fit.
Cash will not stay, and that is the nature; turn money into assets and skills. Forced savings and automatic investing are the discipline this pattern must bolt on.
The need for shared understanding outweighs material conditions. A practical partner fills exactly the hole this pattern leaves.
⚠️ When It Breaks
Lu Cun or Hua Lu in the same palace resolves most of it — salary found inside the Void. This chart should not speculate, guarantee, or front cash for partners. Using the Void stars as a gift, working in intangible value, has more future in it than treating them as a disaster to dodge.
