Huo Ling Jia Ming (Fire & Bell Flank)
The Life Palace flanked by Huo Xing and Ling Xing — two fires pressing in. Haste inviting trouble, and sudden upheavals to guard against.
🔑 How It Forms
Of the two palaces immediately before and after the Life Palace, one holds Huo Xing and the other Ling Xing (in either order), the two fiery malefics flanking the Life Palace between them. That forms the pattern. The test looks only at whether those two neighboring palaces hold Huo Xing and Ling Xing, and does not examine what star sits in the Life Palace.

🔬 A Worked Example, Step by Step
The chart below is cast by our own engine, and the steps come from the pattern detector in that same pass — the explanation is the judgement, not a separate write-up.
- 1
Locate the Life Palace (branch Shen) as the basis for judgement.
- 2
Checking the two palaces flanking the Life Palace (Parents Palace and Siblings Palace): the flanking condition holds.
- 3
Finally the tier: Wen Chang and Zuo Fu appears across the trinity of the Life Palace, tempering the pattern — the structure holds but its edge is blunted; see "When It Breaks" below.
◐ Result: the pattern forms, but benefics temper it
Wen Chang and Zuo Fu
This pattern tests the surroundings rather than the person: which major star occupies the Life Palace and how bright it is are not asked about at all, and the detector only checks whether the palaces immediately before and after hold one Huo Xing and one Ling Xing. Huo Xing is open flame, quick to arrive and fierce while it burns; Ling Xing is hidden fire, smoldering and slow to pass. One of each on either side describes a temperament kept permanently under heat — quick to catch outside, slow to clear inside. Flanking counts only the palaces directly abutting the Life Palace; Huo Xing or Ling Xing one palace further out does not make a flank. That fire is energy in itself, and given an outlet — exercise, competition, high-intensity creative work — it becomes drive; what it must not do is bottle up and ignite on its own, so the whole remedy comes down to giving the fire somewhere to go.
🎯 Readings by Topic
High-intensity, fast-paced fields with a clearly defined opponent, so the heat converts into fighting power. Sedentary, grinding roles cause internal damage instead.
Guard against impulsive trades and chasing short-term momentum; this account can least afford emotional operating. Automatic stop-losses are a hard requirement.
Arguments flare and pass quickly, but words once said cannot be recalled. Institute a ten-minute cooling rule at home.
⚠️ When It Breaks
Flanked by fire and bell while meeting Tan Lang, it becomes the explosive structure of Huo Tan (Fire-Greed) or Ling Tan (Bell-Greed) — danger with opportunity inside it. Lucky stars reduce the harm. The medicine here is regular exercise and enough sleep: give fire an exit and it harms no one.
