Sky Net Spread Wide

Heaven-plate Gui over earth-plate Gui: the two Gui overlap like a net of heaven and earth spread open on all four sides. Travelers lose their companions, illness and litigation both bring harm, and every affair meets obstruction — hold still and wait for the right moment.

In Depth

Heaven's Net Spread Wide is an inauspicious pattern formed when heaven-plate Gui sits over earth-plate Gui — it is also Gui's Fu Yin (self-doubling) configuration. Gui is the Heaven's Net star, yin water in nature, governing obscurity, entanglement, and snares; when two Gui share one palace, net is laid upon net and spread open on all four sides — the image of a person caught fast in the mesh, able neither to advance nor retreat. The key to the pattern lies in the Fu Yin: identical stems stacked together leave the qi stagnant and unmoving, doubling the stem's dark, murky nature, so all affairs turn blocked and tangled, with no room to unfold. The classical verdict reads: travelers lose their companions; illness and litigation both bring harm — those away from home become separated from their party and hard to reach, the sick linger without recovery, and litigants are dragged down and drained. Its harm shows chiefly in one word, confinement — delay, entanglement, constraint — rather than sudden calamity; it is less fierce than the Geng-metal patterns but lasts far longer. When a divination meets it, movement only tightens the mesh, while holding still may work loose a way out. If the palace it occupies meets Emptiness (Kong Wang), the net has a tear in it, and the predicament can in fact be escaped — a rare pattern that welcomes Emptiness; if inauspicious doors and stars join in as well, the harm to health and lawsuits deepens. The remedy is to shorten the front line, halt expansion, and wait for the hour stem to change before advancing again.

Readings by Topic

Career

Job searches and promotions all meet obstruction: résumés and reports sink like stones, blocked at every level with no reply. This is no time to change jobs or volunteer for the spotlight — hold your current post and strengthen your fundamentals. If the palace meets Emptiness the bindings loosen; wait for the next opening before moving.

Wealth

The road to money runs into a snare: investments and loans are easily trapped, and collections drag on with endless reversals. Do not open new ventures or add to positions; call in receivables and cut spending instead. Forcing an entry usually means sinking ever deeper, with losses through illness or litigation.

Relationships

Relationships tend toward tangled knots — bound to each other yet unable to move forward, or an old attachment that clings and will not be cut. For marriage matters the reading is delay: not the time to propose or register the marriage. Settle the old accounts first; only after the pattern changes its qi can feelings come clear.

Health

Indicates lingering illness that resists cure — especially kidney, urinary, and depressive disorders — with relapses and drawn-out delays. Do not gamble on waiting it out: seek treatment early and see the full course through. Chronic patients should guard against complications; recovery hinges on getting the qi moving again.

Travel

This pattern is worst of all for travel — the verdict says outright that travelers lose their companions: parties scatter en route, journeys stall, and contact breaks off. Postpone long trips; if you must set out, stay with your group and avoid night roads and water routes. If the palace meets Emptiness, the resistance eases somewhat.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Litigation bogs down into a war of attrition — illness and litigation both bring harm — plaintiff and defendant alike are dragged along, bleeding time and money with no quick verdict. Do not initiate suit; those already entangled should seek mediation and settlement. Fight head-on and the net only draws tighter, wounding both sides.
