Hour Structure

When Heaven-Plate Geng presses down on the Earth-Plate hour stem, Tai Bai blocks the very spirit of the matter at hand. What you now pursue is obstructed and impassable, expected travelers are delayed — proceed slowly, never in haste.

Formation

Heaven plate Geng + Earth plate Hour Stem

Classical Verse

庚加癸兮为大格,加壬之时为上格,又嫌岁月日时逢。(Geng upon Gui makes the Great Obstruction; upon Ren, the Upper Obstruction; worse still when it meets the year, month, day, or hour.)

《烟波钓叟歌(Song of the Misty Wave Fisherman)》

In Depth

Qimen takes the hour stem as the spirit of the matter — the momentum of the very question being asked; Geng is the baleful metal of Tai Bai, governing blockage and repulsion. When Heaven-Plate Geng lands on the palace of the Earth-Plate hour stem, baleful metal presses directly on the matter's head: this is Shi Ge, the Hour Obstruction. Geng upon the year, month, day, or hour stem each forms an obstruction — the old verse's 'worse still when it meets the year, month, day, or hour' refers to exactly this; 'obstruction' means barred and impassable. The logic: the hour stem governs this matter at this moment, and with Geng metal ambushing it, a checkpoint blocks the road — the affair advances to this very step and jams. Hence current plans stall, appointments fall through, and news goes silent; for expected travelers, they are held up on the road and slow to return. In rank it is an ominous pattern, but its harm applies specifically to the present hour and the matter in front of you — narrower in scope than the Year or Month Obstruction. Ask again in a later period and the momentum may already have turned. Caveats: a strong, timely hour-stem palace can still push through despite the resistance; weak and imprisoned, the effort is wasted. The Three Nobles or auspicious doors in attendance resolve it — change the date or the route; with door oppression and strike punishment besides, forcing it breeds trouble, and shelving the matter to watch and wait is best. In small affairs, one step's delay often carries you straight past the checkpoint.

Readings by Topic

Career

This interview, this round of competition, happens to hit a checkpoint: surprises arise on the spot and the result ends up shelved. Do not doubt your own ability — it is the timing that is blocked. Try again after an interval, or simply switch to another track.

Wealth

This deal, this order, jams at the critical joint: disbursement delayed, approval stuck, the buyer wavering. Do not push or chase; attend to other business first and return when the moment turns. If money is urgently needed, arrange an alternative channel to bridge the gap.

Relationships

This date, this proposal, is prone to upset: the other party cancels at the last minute or family raises an objection. It is a momentary block, not the end of the affinity — reschedule with good grace, press no questions at the moment of refusal, and the next invitation will come easily.

Health

Current symptoms resist diagnosis for the moment; test schedules and surgical slots tend to slip. The illness is not grave, but the treatment rhythm is blocked — relieve the symptoms first and book another time for follow-up. For a true emergency, transfer hospitals decisively.

Travel

Departing now meets obstruction: delays, rebookings, and sudden controls are all possible, and the journey disappoints; travelers being awaited will not arrive on time, with news lagging behind. Postpone if possible; otherwise budget generous margins and prepare alternate routes.

Disputes & Lawsuits

This hearing, this round of negotiation, will not conclude: adjournments and absent key witnesses are the image. Do not force a result — use the delay to shore up your evidence. If the other side presses you to sign, all the more reason to hold still and scrutinize the terms before setting pen to paper.
