Dog Meets Green Dragon

The dog of Ji earth meets the Azure Dragon of Wu earth, and fortune hangs entirely on the door. With an auspicious door, plans succeed and superiors show favor; with a baleful one, all the scheming is labor lost.

Formation

Heaven plate Ji + Earth plate Wu

In Depth

Dog Meets the Azure Dragon forms when heaven-plate Ji sits over earth-plate Wu. Ji is the Earth Door, and among its images stands the dog; Wu is the Heaven Gate, styled the Azure Dragon, governing wealth and eminence. Low, damp Ji earth set upon lofty Wu earth is a dog meeting a dragon — an image of attaching oneself to the powerful: one's own strength is slight, and success depends wholly on the force one leans on. The logic lies in kindred following kindred: the two earths stand as peers, neither overcoming nor at war, and Ji borrows Wu's momentum — whether the borrowing succeeds is decided by the door, hence the verdict that an auspicious door brings plans to fruition while a baleful one wastes every effort. This is a neutral pattern: its own fortune is faint, and it acts like a mirror, showing the quality of whichever of the eight doors shares the palace. With the Open, Rest, or Life Door, the small figure finds a great patron — requests for money, position, or connections all get answers, and superiors show favor; with the Death, Fright, or Harm Door, one runs oneself ragged, spending goodwill and losing time. Judging by this pattern, the first step is always the door: the door sets the tone, the pattern sets the path. And this pattern's path is dependence and reliance — do not fight alone; find a patron, borrow a platform, stand under a tall tree. Note that when Wu earth meets Emptiness (Kong Wang), the power one climbs toward is itself a hollow frame: however fine the door, beware a patron who is scaffolding and no building. When Ji's palace suffers Door Coercion, the climb is toilsome and costs several times the effort. The pattern's formula for success is plain: you are the dog, so work diligently; what you meet is a dragon, so bow low. Borrow the momentum well, and even a neutral pattern can carry you up with it.

Readings by Topic

Career

Advancement runs on patronage: seek a superior's introduction or join an established platform rather than fighting alone. With auspicious doors, superiors show favor and a hand up is likely; with baleful ones, you can run your legs off and no one picks up — better to hold still. Keep the posture low and the effort high.

Wealth

Wealth comes through attachment: pick the right project and the right team and a share follows; strike out alone and you stand thin. Wu is great wealth, Ji small soil — under this pattern, follow rather than lead. If Wu earth meets Emptiness, check that the operation you are joining is not hollow at the core.

Relationships

The match tilts upward — the two sides differ in circumstance. With an auspicious door the gap does not matter: one admires, the other cherishes, and it can last. With a baleful one, warmth meets a cold face and it is mostly one-sided longing. Level your expectations, and see whether the other responds before investing.

Health

Illness sits in spleen and stomach — the two earths — with indigestion, bloating, and damp stagnation the risks. The course is mild, and fortune follows the door: with the Life Door, rest and care bring recovery; with the Death Door, guard against a lingering chronic complaint. Seek a good doctor through a trusted introduction rather than casting about.

Travel

Travel goes best in others' wake: join a group, find companions, or stay with relatives and friends, and all is smooth; venturing strange ground alone means asking favors at every turn. Auspicious door, care all along the way; baleful door, a wasted trip. Fix your lodgings and your contact before leaving — that is this pattern's essential.

Disputes & Lawsuits

The verdict hangs on your backing: with a capable lawyer or a witness of weight, plans succeed; answering the suit alone, the effort is mostly wasted. With auspicious doors, press the evidence; with baleful ones, seek mediation. Finding the right person to lean on is the whole of litigation under this pattern.
