Favors Yin, Harms Yang

Heaven-plate Yi over earth-plate Wu — yin wood subdues yang earth; the yin side profits while the yang side is wounded. Hidden undertakings can proceed, open ones meet obstruction; if the door is inauspicious and oppressed, it warns further of broken wealth and injury.

Heaven plate Yi + Earth plate Wu

In Depth

Benefiting Yin, Harming Yang refers to heaven-plate Yi descending upon earth-plate Wu. Yi is yin wood, the Day Wonder; Wu is yang earth, the wealth stem among the ten. Yin wood strikes down at yang earth from above — yin prevails and yang is wounded, hence the name. The pattern's logic is the soft subduing the hard, the hidden checking the open: what Yi wood attacks is the force that stands in the light, the yang force, so whatever is public, high-profile, or led from the front — or by the man's side — takes the harm; whatever is concealed, supple, or advanced from backstage — or by the woman's side — takes the benefit. In grade it is ranked inauspicious, since most questions people bring are yang matters — wealth, name, and enterprise all live in the open; but the harm is conditional, and hidden undertakings and quiet stratagems can still succeed. The classical verdict names the aggravating condition: when the door is inauspicious and also oppressed (a door controlling its palace is oppression), the malice erupts in full, breaking wealth and injuring people. Cautions: first sort the question into yin or yang, then weigh the door against the palace; Yi controlling Wu also carries the image of striking at wealth, so money dealings in the open call for particular care. With an auspicious door free of oppression, the harm to yang is much reduced — move quietly and no trouble follows.

Career

Open contests and public promotion run against you — the higher the profile, the harder the pushback; backstage maneuvering, internal transfers, and initiatives led by women go smoothly instead. Keep the blade sheathed for now: log the credit quietly and bring it out when the pattern turns.

Wealth

Money in the open takes the hit: public tenders, storefront ventures, and daylight business struggle and risk losses, while discreet income, brokerage commissions, and channels handled by women remain workable. When the door is inauspicious and oppressed, commit no large sums — broken wealth and injury are this pattern's sharpest warning.

Relationships

The woman holds the advantage and the initiative, while the man tends to be constrained and gives ground. A discreet relationship proves steadier than a public one; slow any open moves toward marriage, and the man does best conceding more and contesting less — head-on resistance wounds both sides.

Health

Men's health deserves the closer watch: with earth under attack, digestive complaints and muscular strain lead the list, and when the door is inauspicious and oppressed, guard against injuries that draw blood. Women are less affected; favor gentle regimens — food therapy and rest over harsh remedies — and seek care promptly if symptoms worsen at night.

Travel

Official delegations and high-profile business trips fare poorly, while quiet private travel passes largely untroubled. When the door is inauspicious and oppressed, watch for theft and injury en route — keep money and documents on your person; men run higher risk than women, and night roads through the hills are best avoided.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Open litigation is unfavorable: the longer the public fight, the more it costs, with the male party and the plaintiff at a particular disadvantage; back-channel mediation and private settlement win the real concessions. Under an oppressed, inauspicious door, a lawsuit threatens both purse and person — better to yield some ground and exit quickly.
