Nine Earth

One of the Eight Gods, bearing the nature of Kun Earth. Nine Earth is the deity of solidity and stillness, governing concealment, defense, land, and foundations. It favors holding position and patient cultivation over show and advance — the ancients said that in Nine Earth's hiding, a camp may be pitched.

Jiu Di (Nine Earth) is one of the Eight Gods of Qimen, bearing the nature of Kun Earth — the Earth element, thick and load-bearing, the deity of solidity. The Song of the Misty Wave Angler says 'in the hiding of Nine Earth a camp may be pitched': ancient commanders pitched camp and stockpiled grain toward Nine Earth's direction, taking its sense of deep concealment and firm foundations. Nine Earth governs stillness rather than motion; its imagery covers concealment, defense, farmland, real estate, foundations, and old matters, and it also stands for mothers, farmers, the grassroots, and everything that needs long, patient accumulation. To judge fortune, look at the co-occupying stars and doors and at strength: Nine Earth with auspicious stars and doors in a flourishing palace favors buying property, planting, saving, and cultivating one's core trade — ventures that seek stability and endurance enjoy its protection. With inauspicious stars and doors, stillness turns to stagnation: a torpid, weighed-down state in which matters sit unmoving, and hopes of promotion or change mostly come to nothing. Nine Earth is Earth, flourishing in the earth months at the four season-ends; landing in the Zhen or Xun wood palaces and overcome, its power to hold ground is discounted.
