Fan Yin Snake Punishment

Heaven-plate Ren over earth-plate Ji: the Ren snake lands on Ji earth, ground of punishment — a Fan Yin bearing punishment. Great misfortune approaches; yet yield to circumstances, hold still, and make no rash move, and the calamity can be escaped.

Heaven plate Ren + Earth plate Ji

In Depth

Fan Yin, Snake Punishment refers to heaven-plate Ren over earth-plate Ji. Ren is the coiling snake; Ji is the Door of Earth, the soil of the tomb. When Ren water lands on Ji, earth attacks water and the snake is trapped on punishing ground, bitten worse the more it thrashes — hence the name. Fan Yin signifies outcomes reversing intention: wanting speed and getting delay, seeking success and meeting failure, every increase in force answered by a harsher rebound. The classical reading — great misfortune approaches; yield and hold, and it can be escaped — states the pattern's usage in a single line: the danger is real, but the conditions for escaping it are explicit, contained in the two words yield and hold. Structurally, Ji earth muddies the water: Ren's quicksilver adaptability is smothered in mud, and forcing the struggle only sinks one deeper — like a mire, from which only stillness allows a slow escape. The severity is heavy but resolvable: unlike the chained inauspicious patterns that offer no exit, this one shows a living path, and everything turns on whether the querent is willing to stop. With auspicious doors and stars in the palace, the conditions for escape widen — hold still for a time and the page turns. With the Death Door or White Tiger, trouble is already on the road: halt every aggressive move at once. One caveat deserves underlining: under this pattern, the more insistently someone urges you to gamble, to take one big swing, the more warily you should treat it — that urging is precisely where the door to disaster stands. If Ren falls into Emptiness, the threatened trouble is mostly a false alarm, but the principle of stillness holds unchanged. A Fan Yin period usually resolves itself within ten days; endure it, and safety returns.

Career

Hidden reefs at work: the harder you push to shine, the more mistakes appear. Aggressive job-hopping, startups, and performance wagers are all invitations to trouble right now. Hold your current post, decline high-risk assignments, and steady what is already in hand. Endure this stretch, and the situation reverses on its own.

Wealth

The omen precedes a major loss: leverage, concentrated positions, and borrowed money for investment are at their most dangerous now — and be doubly wary of anyone recruiting you into a scheme. Cash is king; wind down every aggressive position. Those already underwater should not chase recovery; the harder the fight, the deeper the loss.

Relationships

The relationship risks capsizing: ultimatums, pressure to marry, and checking up on the other's movements all push things toward the opposite of what you want. The other party's emotions are unsteady — cool handling is best. Neither reconciliation nor confession suits this moment; let things take their course, and revisit after this ten-day span.

Health

Health risks a sharp turn for the worse, chiefly the spleen and stomach, kidneys, and accidental injury. Do not tough out small symptoms — seeking treatment early keeps great trouble outside the gate. Avoid intense exertion, deep water, and night travel. Major medical decisions such as surgery should wait if they can.

Travel

Under a pattern of approaching misfortune, long journeys stand first in the line of fire, with road, boat, and water routes carrying the highest risk. Cancel if you can; reschedule if you can. If you must go: full insurance, travel in company, avoid night roads and water routes, keep the itinerary spare, and return quickly.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Litigation is inauspicious: the one who sues first draws the fire onto themselves, and the opponent has arrangements working behind the scenes. The pattern states plainly that yielding averts disaster: lower your posture, pursue settlement, and if necessary accept a small loss in exchange for safety. Meet force with force, and a small case becomes a large one.
