Ghost at Earth Door

Heaven-plate Ji over earth-plate Ji — the double-Ji Fu Yin, known as the Earth Gate Meets a Ghost. Obscuring energies pile upon one another: it is most inauspicious in illness readings, ventures stall at every turn, and the only sound course is to hold still and wait rather than make bold moves.

Formation

Heaven plate Ji + Earth plate Ji

In Depth

The Earth Gate Meets a Ghost forms when heaven-plate Ji sits over earth-plate Ji — the Fu Yin (self-repetition) pattern of the six Ji. Ji is Yin Earth, symbolizing the earth gate, fields and gardens, tombs, and hidden private affairs; the ghost here refers to murky, stagnant, obscuring energy. With two Ji in the same palace, darkness is stacked upon darkness — like wandering into a graveyard on a night journey — hence the name. The key to the pattern lies in the Fu Yin: when the heaven-plate and earth-plate stems are identical, the flow of qi comes to a complete standstill. Ji Earth already governs obscurity, and doubled it becomes even more sealed off, so nothing moves forward. This is an inauspicious pattern, but its harm lies in stagnation rather than clash. It is most feared in illness readings, indicating a heavy, lingering condition that resists cure — the old texts put it in the gravest terms, which today reads as a serious prognosis calling for prompt medical attention. For undertakings, nothing goes through: requests go unanswered and plans make no progress. For lost items it points to something buried deep and hard to find; for travelers, to someone stranded and not returning. In judging severity, note the gradations: supported by the three auspicious doors — Open, Rest, and Life — the harm softens into mere delay; with the Death Door or Fright Door, or a palace oppressed by its door, misfortune compounds. If the palace falls into Void (Kong Wang), matters simply dissolve and come to nothing — which may avert real damage. Overall, stillness overcomes motion: holding one's ground and waiting for the right moment is the best policy.

Readings by Topic

Career

Job searches and promotions stall across the board — résumés and applications sink without a trace. This is not the time to change jobs or volunteer for new assignments; holding your current position and polishing the work at hand is the safer play. Any statement about role changes is best postponed.

Wealth

Money flows are blocked and receipts come slowly; investment projects easily bog down. Avoid opening new shops, signing new contracts, or adding capital. Old debts are hard to collect — plan for a long recovery. Focus on consolidation and taking stock of assets until the pattern turns.

Relationships

The relationship sinks into a heavy silence, with both sides keeping their thoughts to themselves while misunderstandings ferment in the dark. Confessions, proposals, and reconciliations meet little response; married couples should guard against a cold war dragging on. Do open up the conversation — but don't press for an immediate answer.

Health

This pattern is at its most inauspicious in illness readings, indicating serious, lingering conditions — be especially watchful of the spleen and stomach, the abdomen, and chronic old ailments. Do not wait and see: seek proper medical care and a confirmed diagnosis promptly. For the elderly and the long-ill, families should watch closely for changes.

Travel

Journeys meet many obstacles — rebookings, delays, and last-minute cancellations are likely, and the mood en route stays gloomy. Postpone non-essential long trips; if you must go, leave generous buffer time and avoid night driving and remote routes.

Disputes & Lawsuits

The case bogs down — filing, hearings, and enforcement all get stuck stage by stage, with no result in the short term. Initiating a suit is unfavorable; aim to close through mediation or settlement. Those already in litigation should settle in for the long haul, complete the evidence, and wait for the moment.
