Shi Zhong Yin Yu (Jade Hidden in Stone)
Ju Men in the Zi or Wu branch at the Life Palace — the dark star in its proper place, jade still inside the rock. A late and substantial arrival carved out by eloquence and expertise: Ju Men's finest pattern.
🔑 How It Forms
Ju Men sits in the Life Palace itself, the Life Palace lies in the Zi or the Wu branch, and its brightness reaches thriving or in temple (brightness is a star's power grade in the palace it occupies; in temple is the strongest, thriving the next). At the same time the Life Palace must contain none of Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing or Ling Xing (together the four malefics). Both conditions met together form the pattern. The four malefics are checked inside the Life Palace only; ones landing elsewhere in the trinity fall outside the test.

🔬 A Worked Example, Step by Step
The chart below is cast by our own engine, and the steps come from the pattern detector in that same pass — the explanation is the judgement, not a separate write-up.
- 1
Locate the Life Palace (branch Wu) as the basis for judgement.
- 2
This pattern requires the palace to sit at Zi and Wu; the Life Palace is at Wu — condition met.
- 3
Found Ju Men in the Life Palace.
- 4
Checking brightness: Ju Men thriving — meets the requirement.
- 5
Confirming that Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing and Ling Xing do not appear in the Life Palace — their absence is exactly what this pattern requires.
- 6
All 2 conditions above are met, so the pattern forms.
- 7
Finally the tier: no malefics or Hua Ji disturb the trinity of the Life Palace, so the pattern stands at full strength.
✓ Result: the pattern forms at full strength
Ju Men is the dark star, governing speech and deep thought, and when it lands in temple at Zi or Wu the darkness turns into depth — thinking far, digging through, the jade hidden inside this rock. It is one of the few patterns that writes malefics into the forming conditions: Ju Men already carries friction, and once Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing or Ling Xing shares the palace the rock becomes too stubborn to cut, so the detector runs a separate exclusion step for the four malefics. Watch the scope: the four malefics are checked in the Life Palace only, and if they land in the opposite palace or a trine palace the test still passes. Di Kong and Di Jie are not checked, and neither is a Hua Ji on Ju Men; both of those are left to the questions of what breaks the pattern and what to watch for.
🎯 Readings by Topic
Deep tracks where speech is the trade: law, medicine, criticism, academia, consulting. Survive the years of paying dues and the right to speak becomes actual power.
Income out of speech and money on the back of the name, with earnings rising sharply from middle age. Early on, investing in oneself beats investing in the market.
A sharp tongue over a soft heart is the standing flaw. In close relationships argue less and listen more — jade has to warm before people come near.
⚠️ When It Breaks
Malefics make the stone stubborn and the jade brittle, with disputes never far away. In a year of Ju Men with Hua Ji, guard against words that cause trouble and against disputes over paperwork. The long grinding stretch before recognition is this pattern's great test of temperament.
