🔑 How It Forms
Tian Xiang guards the Life Palace, and the two palaces immediately before and after the Life Palace form a flank: one of them holds a star carrying Hua Lu (Hua Lu is one of the Four Transformations, produced when the heavenly stem of the birth year activates a star, and it governs income), the other holds Tian Liang (the star of shelter, governing protection). It does not matter which side carries the Lu and which the Liang; swapping them still forms the pattern.

Tian Xiang is called the seal star in this system and handles authorization, credit and the stamping of documents. It takes no transformation of its own (the birth-year stem never turns it into Lu, Quan, Ke or Ji), so its situation is decided almost entirely by its neighbors — which is why the detector does not measure Tian Xiang's own brightness and looks instead at the palaces before and after the Life Palace. Flanking means the two palaces directly abutting the Life Palace; one palace further out does not count. The detector also does not care whether the Lu is on the left and the Liang on the right or the other way round: one on each side is enough. Wealth (Hua Lu) supplies the resources and shelter (Tian Liang) supplies the backing, and only then does the seal in the middle have the standing to be entrusted with anything — that is the structural source of authority conferred by trust. If those same positions held Qing Yang and Hua Ji instead, the arrangement flips into Xing Ji Jia Yin (Blade & Obstruction Flank), so when reading a chart, check palace by palace exactly what the two neighbors are.

Reliability is the main attraction and being depended on becomes a habit. Watch that always saying yes does not become always expected — even trust needs boundaries.

The flanking structure is fragile: Hua Ji in an adjacent palace flips it into Xing Ji Jia Yin (Blade & Obstruction Flank), a world of difference from a single change. The seal star has no transformations of its own, so the whole pattern rests on the outside, and choosing whom to serve is a survival skill.
