Five Spirits Unite

Ding and Ren join in stem combination — the Star Grace and the water of the Heavenly Jail turn from foes to friends. It brings a patron's favor and gracious decrees, fair judgment in lawsuits, goodwill in undertakings, and partnerships that can be sealed.

Formation

Heaven plate Ding + Earth plate Ren

In Depth

Five Spirits in Mutual Harmony forms when heaven-plate Ding sits over earth-plate Ren. Ding and Ren make one of the ten-stem combinations: yin fire and yang water are by nature at war, yet combination transforms them and hostility turns to affection — hence the name mutual harmony. The pattern turns on that word harmony: Ding is the Star Grace, the light of documents and patrons; Ren is the Heavenly Jail, the surging momentum of rivers and moving water. Joined, the document enters the water without sinking, and the prison case meets fire and comes to light — hence the reading of a patron's gracious decree and fair judgment in litigation. The pattern is auspicious, and its luck lies in fairness and favor: ask for help and someone is willing to give it; go to court and someone is willing to listen; negotiate a partnership and both sides mean what they say. Unlike the auspicious patterns that win by sheer forward strength, the luck of mutual harmony carries a flavor of negotiation and compromise — the result is fair, though not necessarily a solo victory. Ding upon Ren also completes the configuration in which the Star Grace obtains its envoy, letting its power be put to use, so matters of documents and information are doubly favored. As for gradations: with the Open, Rest, or Life Door, the promised favor turns solid — promotion, redress, and approvals are all in reach; with baleful doors there is a crack in the accord, and even a signed agreement needs watching in the details. Note that if the palace meets Emptiness (Kong Wang), the accord turns hollow — many promises, little delivery; with Door Coercion, goodwill is discounted and justice arrives late. In using this pattern, reach out and form the alliance yourself, trading sincerity for sincerity; the straighter your posture, the greater the combined strength. For lawsuits, approvals, and appeals to patrons, this pattern answers especially often.

Readings by Topic

Career

A patron lifts you up: promotion, rehabilitation, and approvals are all in prospect, and superiors are willing to speak for you. Negotiations and cross-team cooperation come to agreement easily. Seek out people of weight and deal with them sincerely; if Emptiness appears, promises are slow to be honored — treat nothing as settled until it is in writing.

Wealth

Wealth comes through cooperation: partnerships, signings, and profit-sharing all prosper. Money changes hands on fair terms — neither cheating nor being cheated. A good time to negotiate shares and fix contracts; the moment greed for the whole pie stirs, the accord breaks and the source of profit is lost.

Relationships

The Ding-Ren combination is a bond of genuine feeling, and for romance it is highly auspicious: singles find a match made through introduction, and quarreling partners can reconcile. Reunion readings also hold hope — affection remains on both sides. Only under Emptiness do sweet words fail to materialize; test the heart by deeds.

Health

The illness finds its good physician — an image of water and fire in balance, so heart and kidney complaints settle once properly managed. A good time to seek a renowned doctor or change the treatment plan; doctor and patient work in accord and treatment goes smoothly. Chronic conditions nursed now yield double returns; putting it off wastes a rare opening.

Travel

Companions prove helpful on the road, patrons appear along the way, and traveling in company is especially favored. Crossings over water go smoothly; visas and border passages find friendly hands. Well suited to business trips and journeys to seal an alliance; traveling alone is safe too — just keep no secrets from your companions.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Fair judgment is this pattern's plain verdict: the case can be justly decided, grievances aired, and mediation concluded. A person of standing is willing to see justice done — go through proper channels and shun the crooked path. With documents and evidence complete, the odds improve further.
