Fu Yin (Stagnation)

Heaven-plate Wu over earth-plate Wu — two earths in one palace, the qi doubled and unmoving. Matters close up and progress stalls; hold steady and wait for the moment rather than forcing a new venture.

Heaven plate Wu + Earth plate Wu

In Depth

Fu Yin describes the state in which the heaven-plate stem and the earth-plate stem are identical, stacked one upon the other; Wu over Wu means two Wu sharing one palace. Wu is yang earth; in Dunjia, Jia-Zi conceals itself beneath Wu, and Wu also stands for capital, wealth, and credit. With two Wu joined, the earth nature turns thick and heavy, still and unmoving — like a figure prostrate on the ground, groaning — the qi comes to a complete standstill, which is why this pattern signifies blockage, delay, and staying put. The pattern forms whenever heaven and earth plates are both Wu, regardless of palace; the palace's strength, however, colors the degree of stagnation — Wu earth in season holds its ground with force, while in decline it struggles even to hold. In grade, Fu Yin is neutral: it brings no disaster of its own, but no help either. Matters typically show as delay, repetition, and deadlock; plans make little headway; a missing person has not gone far; illness lingers and relapses. For timing, the moment a clash breaks the Fu Yin open usually marks the stir of movement; and since both Wu govern wealth, questions of money often answer as funds settling and turnover slowing. Cautions: if the palace also holds an inauspicious door, door oppression, or strike-punishment, stagnation hardens into entrapment; under emptiness (Kong Wang) even the ground for holding steady is hollow — all the more reason not to act rashly; supported by auspicious doors and stars, quiet holding stays secure, and waiting for the moment to move is the wisest course.

Career

Job hunts and promotions are slow to bear fruit; roles and grades tend to stay exactly where they are, and applications sink without a trace. This is not the moment to change jobs or push a new project through — dig into your current responsibilities, build a track record, and move once a clash breaks the Fu Yin open.

Wealth

Wealth favors defense: income holds steady but rarely grows, positions drift sideways or sit underwater, and new deals drag on without closing. Avoid adding positions or opening new ventures; auditing cash flow and trimming costs suits this pattern's qi far better than expansion.

Relationships

Romance marks time in place: singles run into old acquaintances more often than new prospects, and couples find the relationship frozen where it stands, with talk of marriage hard to advance. Rather than pressing a partner to commit, invest in yourself — deadlocks like this usually need an outside moment to break.

Health

Relapses and recurring symptoms are this pattern's signature — the illness is rarely severe but lingers stubbornly, most often in earth-type areas such as the spleen, stomach, and muscles. Stay with the existing treatment plan and rest; switching doctors or therapies repeatedly only delays recovery.

Travel

Travel meets resistance: rebookings, delays, and doubling back over the same route are all likely, and long journeys yield little. Postpone whatever can be postponed; if you must go, allow generous margins. A missing or absent person is most likely still where they were, or close by.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Litigation drags without resolution — adjourned hearings and repeated procedure set the tone, and neither side can force a quick win. Pushing hard only burns money; use the standstill to shore up evidence and pursue mediation, then press again once the deadlock loosens on its own.
