Three Nobles & Six Yi

Ren Yi

Ren is Yang Water, the image of a rushing river, known as the Celestial Prison. It governs change, restless movement, and entanglement. Matters in Ren's palace stay fluid and unsettled — flowing smoothly with auspicious Doors and Stars, tangling endlessly with inauspicious ones.

In Depth

Among the ten Heavenly Stems, Ren is Yang Water, like a river in full flow. In Qimen it is called the Celestial Prison and serves as the Yi under which the Jia-Chen decade leader hides. Ren's symbolism is flow and entanglement: it governs change, restless travel, journeys, and disappearances, as well as secret affairs, illicit intimacy, and imprisonment or detention. As objects it stands for rivers, roads, and wine and liquids; as people it stands for travelers, transient populations, and fugitives. Directionally, Ren Water belongs to the north and resonates with the Kan One palace. Palace placements: in Kan One it is on home ground and the water runs free; in Qian Six or Dui Seven it receives Metal's support; in Kun Two or Gen Eight it is attacked by Earth and the flow is dammed; in Xun Four it forms a Six Yi Strike Punishment (Chen punishing itself), signaling self-inflicted entanglement; in Li Nine it attacks Fire, and trouble arises over money. Favorable and unfavorable pairings: Ren over Wu forms the Small Snake Becomes a Dragon, and Ren over Yi the Small Snake Gains Power — with auspicious Doors, these mean rising from obscurity and escaping hardship into better days. Ren over Geng, unexpectedly, forms Taibai Captures the Snake, where justice in prison and litigation is fairly served. It most fears Bing, forming the Water Snake Enters Fire, and Xin, forming the Coiling Snakes Entwined — official calamities wrapping around without end. When Ren is strong the current of movement is powerful and plans should move fast; when weak, all the running about comes to nothing. Ren in emptiness means news from a traveler cannot get through and changes fall flat. For readings about missing persons, journeys, or murky entanglements, first see which palace Ren occupies and what supports or attacks it, then decide whether to move or stay put.

Readings by Topic

Career

In career readings, Ren usually means transfers, business travel, or a mobile post — better to ride the current than sit still. Ren over Wu forms the Small Snake Becomes a Dragon: rising from a low position, favorable for both job changes and promotion. Ren in Xun Four under Strike Punishment means self-made entanglement in office politics — do not stir up further changes now. With a strong palace, a distant posting turns into an opportunity.

Wealth

Ren is wealth in motion, favoring logistics, trade, aquatic products, liquor, and other circulation businesses. Ren in a strong palace means lively cash flow — but money that comes fast goes fast, so bank the gains. Ren over Bing forms the Water Snake Enters Fire: money breeds legal trouble, and windfalls must be refused. Ren in emptiness means payments are in transit and stubbornly slow to arrive.

Relationships

Ren in a love reading warns of murky entanglements and love triangles — the relationship keeps shifting. Ren over Yi forms the Small Snake Gains Power: the woman is content, the man prospers, and the match can succeed. Ren over Xin forms the Coiling Snakes Entwined: even with an auspicious Door there is no peace, so cut the entanglement early. If Ren's palace combines with the day stem's palace, the couple is often apart but the bond endures.

Health

Ren governs the kidneys, bladder, and blood circulation. Ren with an inauspicious Door warns of urinary and fluid-metabolism disorders. Ren in Xun Four under Strike Punishment means a lingering, relapsing illness — treat early, do not delay. When Ren is strong, illness usually stems from overwork and constant travel: rest first, then treat, and never journey far while sick.

Travel

Ren is roads and rivers. Ren with auspicious Doors and Stars means a clear road all the way, favoring water routes and long hauls. Geng over Ren forms the Upper Clash: on a distant journey one loses the way and word cannot get through — travel in company and keep contacts arranged. Ren in a Strike Punishment palace breeds complications midway, so build slack into the itinerary.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Ren is the Celestial Prison. In litigation it warns of a case that widens its net and drags without resolution. Ren over Geng forms Taibai Captures the Snake — prison and trial are handled fairly, right and wrong cleanly cut apart, so trust the process and proceed. Ren over Bing brings official calamity and detention in unbroken succession — settle and step away. Ren in emptiness means the summons and court papers are long delayed.
