Eight Doors

Scenery Door

The Scenery Door belongs to Fire, with its original palace at Li 9. A mildly auspicious door, it governs documents, information, examinations, and publicity — favorable for submitting proposals and staging promotion; in illness, beware bleeding and eye complaints.

Classical Verse

景上投书并破阵,惊能擒讼有声名。(At Scenery, submit petitions and break the enemy's formation; Fright can seize litigants and win renown.)

《烟波钓叟歌 (Song of the Old Fisherman of the Misty Waves)》 · 八门吉凶 (The Fortunes of the Eight Doors)

In Depth

The Scenery Door belongs to Fire, its original palace at Li 9 in the due south. Fire is bright and outward-showing, so the door governs documents, information, examinations, publicity, and ceremony — and also blood and flame. Its imagery includes writings and contracts, examinations and elections, advertising and promotion, banquets and celebrations, image and media; among people it stands for the literati, media figures, and performers. In the hierarchy it is mildly auspicious: its blessing lies in cultured brilliance, its flaw in showy emptiness. Palace relations: in the Metal palaces Qian 6 and Dui 7, Fire controls Metal and the door is forced — matters of paperwork breed disputes instead; in Kan 1 it is controlled by Water, the flame is checked, and its power over publicity and examinations drops sharply; in Zhen 3 or Xun 4 Wood feeds the civilizing fire, most favorable for examinations and making a name; in Kun 2 or Gen 8 Fire generates Earth and drains, leaving only middling fortune; in Li 9 it matches its element and sits enthroned. It peaks in summer, is supported in spring, and rests through autumn and winter. In use, submitting petitions and proposals, releasing news, and staging momentum to break an opposing formation all suit the Scenery Door. Caveats: it carries a good deal of false fire — ventures often thunder loudly and rain little, so verify the landing palace's strength to sort the real from the hollow; in illness it points to blood disorders, the eyes, and heart-fire complaints; with the Ding Noble the joy of documents is all the more certain, while in emptiness the news proves false and papers fail — choose another hour for important contracts.

Readings by Topic

Career

Favorable for examinations, contested postings, work reports, and defenses; copywriting, publicity, speeches, and presentations shine, and the media, advertising, and education fields thrive. Promotion is won on credentials and eloquence — showcase your results boldly. Beware colleagues' verbal promises that never materialize; put everything important in writing.

Wealth

Seek wealth along the publicity route: advertising campaigns, livestream selling, and the cultural industries can turn a profit. The Scenery Door runs to false fire — there is distance between paper prosperity and pocketed cash, so comb through contract clauses. In investing, beware bullish rumors luring you in; verify any good news before entering.

Relationships

Affections look ardent on the surface — flowers and compliments abound, and banquets and gatherings breed new connections. Beware sweet words outrunning deeds; the heat rises fast and fades fast. When talk turns to marriage, watch whether the other party converts words into concrete arrangements; verify the identity of anyone met online.

Health

It governs blood disorders, the eyes, and heart-fire ailments: watch blood pressure and lipids, eye inflammation, restlessness and insomnia — most telling in summer. Cool the heart, lower the fire, keep regular hours. Bring every lab report and scan to appointments, compare follow-up results carefully, and never rely on verbal conclusions alone.

Travel

Trips tend toward sightseeing, conferences, performances, and examinations — lively and scenic, with plenty to photograph. Guard against heatstroke and fire hazards; check the escape routes when checking in. Promotional images often outshine the real scenery, so level your expectations and re-verify the key arrangements yourself.

Disputes & Lawsuits

Litigation favors the written word: a well-drafted complaint, well-marshaled evidence, and strong written argument seize the initiative, and petitions, formal reports, and public hearings tell as well. 'At Scenery, submit petitions and break the formation' — laying out your evidence first can crack the other side's line. Guard against their publicity offensive; unify your own message in advance.
