Wei Tu Zhi（Stomach Mansion）

Wei Tu Zhi is the traditional deity title for Stomach Mansion, number 17 in the atlas and part of the Western White Tiger. It follows Bond Mansion and precedes Hairy Head Mansion. This Chinese Medieval reconstruction contains 3 stars and 2 segments; HIP 12719 is the red-ringed reference star.

Reading this star map

Stomach forms a tall, open three-star pattern: one above, one at lower left, and the red-ringed reference at lower right. Two segments do not make a closed triangle. Stomach’s Wei (胃) belongs to the White Tiger; it is distinct from Rooftop’s Wei (危) in the Black Tortoise.

Understanding the deity title

The traditional title 胃土雉 (Wei Tu Zhi) combines the mansion character 胃, the association 土, and the animal image 雉. The astronomical entry is Stomach Mansion. A deity portrait expresses cultural imagery; a star map records positions and connecting lines. They can be read together without expecting the star pattern to resemble the animal.

Wei is described as a storehouse for food and grain. As a modern metaphor, it evokes keeping enough for a meal, packing a spare and protecting everyday essentials when plans change. Provision becomes burdensome if nothing ever feels sufficient; after storing enough, it is also possible to enjoy today's meal.
