The Life Palace holds the birth-year Hua Ji (Hua Ji is one of the Four Transformations, produced when the heavenly stem of the birth year activates a star, and it governs obstruction and entanglement), and of the two palaces immediately before and after the Life Palace, one holds Qing Yang and the other Tuo Luo (the pair of malefics, in either order). That forms the pattern.

Lu Cun, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Yue and Tian Kui
Qing Yang and Tuo Luo are permanently arranged one palace before and one palace after Lu Cun — a fixed feature of the system — so the position flanked by the two exists on every chart; what this pattern confirms is that Hua Ji happens to be sitting on it. The detector works in two steps: first find the Hua Ji mark in the Life Palace itself — it is not a star but a mark the birth-year stem stamps onto some star — then check whether the two neighboring palaces hold one Qing Yang and one Tuo Luo. With all three in place the problem turns from one thing going badly into being blocked at both ends: Qing Yang governs open, fast conflict, Tuo Luo governs hidden delay and entanglement, and the Ji in the middle can neither break out nor fall back. Flanking counts only the immediately adjacent palaces, not ones further out. Understanding the structure is understanding the response: situations of this shape must not be met head-on, and changing the route or the timing works far better than forcing the issue.
🎯 Readings by Topic
If the flanked palace is the Career Palace, expect to be caught in the middle: squeezed from above and below, cornered on both sides. A lateral move or a change of platform is far more efficient than digging in.
With the flanked obstruction in the Wealth or Property Palace, guard against tangled debt and pressure on cash flow from both ends. Cut the loss rather than borrow new money to repay old.
Flanked in the Marriage Palace it means third parties pulling at the relationship with no clean move available. Put the problem on the table — better than bearing it in silence.
⚠️ When It Breaks
Once the cycle passes out of the flanked ground the pressure lifts; this is not a lifelong verdict. The flanking counts only with the two immediately adjacent palaces. The real danger is not the encirclement but refusing to ask for help inside it.
