Lian Zhen guards the Life Palace with brightness in the weaker three grades, neutral, weak or fallen (a star's power runs from strong to weak as in temple, thriving, in place, favorable, neutral, weak, fallen); at the same time Qi Sha appears inside the Life Palace's trinity (the palace itself + the opposite palace + the two trine palaces, four in all), with shining in from a trine or the opposite palace being enough — that manner of arrival is anciently called being carried in.

The two conditions here divide the labor cleanly: Lian Zhen is checked for state, Qi Sha for position. A Lian Zhen with force behind it is principled executive drive, but once it weakens the prison-star side comes up — impulsive, fixated, forever picking fights with the rules — so the detector only recognizes this pattern when brightness has dropped below neutral. Qi Sha need not share the palace and merely has to appear in the trinity, because being carried in describes precisely that force arriving from a trine or the opposite palace, which amounts to handing a knife to a chest full of pent-up heat. Together the two mark the overlay of an impulsive person on a risky situation, and the warning is about decision-making moments: driving fast, playing a dangerous move, signing something in anger. A Lian Zhen at full force also meets Qi Sha, but that is a different picture and lies outside this pattern.
