Nine Stars

Tian Qin Star

A greatly auspicious star among the Nine, of the Earth element, dwelling in the central fifth palace and lodging in Kun 2. It governs uprightness, loyalty, and the aid of benefactors — useful in all undertakings, above all audiences with the powerful, seeking office, construction, and relocation.

In Depth

Tian Qin belongs to the Earth element. Its original seat is the central fifth palace, and as the charts rotate it lodges in Kun 2. Classified as greatly auspicious, it stands with Tian Fu and Tian Xin as the supreme three. Its imagery is uprightness, integrity, and gravity: in people it points to venerable elders, powerful patrons, and loyal ministers; in affairs it signals commanding from the center with help converging from every side. Dwelling at the center and governing outward, Tian Qin carries the image of the eight directions in attendance — hence whatever palace it occupies, endeavors draw the support of benefactors, above all calling on the powerful, seeking office and taking up posts, weddings and partnerships, construction and relocation. It is prosperous in the earth months, supported in summer, resting in autumn, imprisoned in winter, and dead in spring. When prosperous, its moral authority rallies all at a single call; when weak, the help thins yet steadiness remains. Its lodging in Kun 2 is home ground; in Kan it overcomes Water, bringing toil; in Zhen or Xun, overcome by Wood, patrons weaken and one must lean doubly on one's own discipline. Upright by nature, Tian Qin loves best the Open Door, the Life Door, and the Three Nobles: with a clean, upright configuration, great matters can be entrusted to it, and even under malign doors and patterns it usually leaves mercy within misfortune. Use this star with open, honorable conduct, and doors open on every side; under Emptiness (Kong Wang) its patrons promise but do not deliver — secure substance first and reputation after.
