Exact starting age
The age your first Luck Pillar begins, in years and months, plus the calendar date — computed from the hours between your birth and the nearest solar-term boundary and kept to the month.
Direction of the cycle
Whether your pillars run forward or backward through the sixty stem-branch pairs, decided by the polarity of your Year Stem (switched at Lichun) and your gender.
Ten decades, dated
Ten consecutive Luck Pillars covering more than a century, each with its stem and branch, its elements, its age range and its start and end dates.

How 10-year luck pillars are calculated
Luck Pillars grow out of the Month Pillar. The calculator applies the classical rules step by step on the same engine that casts the full chart, after the birth time has been corrected for time zone, daylight saving and true solar time.
1 · Decide the direction
A yang Year Stem with a male birth, or a yin Year Stem with a female birth, runs forward; the other two combinations run backward. The Year Stem changes at Lichun, so a January birth often belongs to the previous year.
2 · Count to the nearest solar term
Forward cycles count the time from birth to the next Jie (the solar term that opens a month); backward cycles count back to the previous one.
3 · Convert with three days per year
Every three days of that interval equals one year of age, one day equals four months, and the remainder is carried down to the hour, giving an exact start date.
4 · Step through the sixty pairs
Each pillar is the next (or previous) stem-branch pair after the Month Pillar, and each lasts ten years.

Do I need my birth time?
A birth date and gender are enough for the luck pillar sequence. The birth time and place make the starting age precise to the month and fix the Hour Pillar, so add them if you know them.
Why does my starting age differ from another calculator?
Usually because of birth-time preprocessing or rounding: whether daylight saving and true solar time were applied, whether the year switches at Lichun or at Chinese New Year, and whether the starting age is rounded to whole years. This calculator corrects the time first and keeps the remainder down to the hour.
How do I read my current luck pillar?
Read it against your natal chart: whether its elements support or strain your Day Master and favorable elements, and how its branch combines or clashes with your four branches. A Luck Pillar shifts the emphasis of the natal chart for a decade.
