Earth Punishes the Tortoise

Heaven-plate Ji over earth-plate Gui — Yin Earth striking Yin Water, obscurity clashing with hidden vice. It presages grave illness hard to rise from, and lawsuits with the shadow of prison; readings on sickness or litigation alike call for full vigilance and early action.

Formation

Heaven plate Ji + Earth plate Gui

In Depth

The Earth Punishment Xuan Wu forms when heaven-plate Ji sits over earth-plate Gui. Ji is Yin Earth, governing the earth gate and obscurity; Gui is Yin Water, seated in the position of Xuan Wu, the Dark Warrior, governing hidden vice, thieves, and the net of prison. When Ji Earth rides Gui Water, earth strikes water and two Yin forces war with each other; darkness and hidden vice twist together, and the image of punishment and injury arises — hence the name. The pattern's logic lies in Yin attacking Yin: no open quarrel, yet battle rages in the dark, so disaster tends to break out where it cannot be seen. The old reading therefore lands on two things: illness at the brink for man or woman, and lawsuits carrying the calamity of prison. In severity it sits at the heavier end of the inauspicious patterns. In illness readings it demands the greatest vigilance, indicating deep-seated disease with a concealed onset — ailments of the kidneys, blood, and gynecological system are especially typical. In litigation it indicates a frame-up worked in the dark, a case tangled past easy reading, with a risk of detention. With the Open, Rest, or Life Doors the menace eases — a long illness can be treated, a suit can be settled; with inauspicious doors it worsens, and one should prepare for the worst. Note that if the palace falls into Void (Kong Wang), the menace of illness or lawsuit is largely hollow — but it also means an unclear diagnosis or a case left hanging, still requiring follow-up. Under this pattern, screen for illness early, be wary of litigation, and stay far from everything shady: that is the way to keep oneself safe.

Readings by Topic

Career

Guard against arrows from the dark: anonymous tip-offs and behind-the-back accusations tend to find their way to you. In sensitive periods leave no openings — route important communications through formal channels and keep records; refuse outright anything skirting the edge of the rules.

Wealth

Beware hidden drains and fraud — card skimming, your identity used for someone else's guarantee, and losses from being dragged into shady dealings all deserve precautions. Check your assets and credit records regularly; opaque high-yield offers are traps, without exception.

Relationships

Suspicion and concealment coexist — one side's old flame or secret may surface without warning and shake the foundation of the relationship. Rather than probing each other, talk openly; if you find your partner tangled in something shady, cut losses early.

Health

In illness readings this pattern is grave: watch the kidneys, urinary tract, blood, and gynecological system, where symptoms hide until the condition is advanced. Don't let small signs grow into major disease — get systematic checks soon; the chronically ill should guard against relapse and follow medical advice to the letter.

Travel

Beware water hazards and theft: routes over water and rainy night driving carry high risk, and valuables vanish before you notice. Avoid flood season and night passages, split up valuables, back up documents in advance, and keep family informed of your itinerary.

Disputes & Lawsuits

The signs for litigation are plainly bad: a frame-up in the dark or entanglement in criminal liability, with the case's roots twisted deep. Engage a professional lawyer as early as possible and comb through the chain of evidence; never deal with the other side privately — keep everything within formal judicial procedure.
